This is how rumors get started: last week hundreds of people driving through downtown Sebastopol saw councilmember Michael Carnacchi walking down the sidewalk with a long white cane tap, tap, tapping ahead of him. When he came to a busy intersection, a companion took his elbow and walked him across.

No, he’s not having problems with his eyesight.

Carnacchi is a member of a city subcommittee that’s overseeing an Americans with Disabilities Act update to the sidewalks of downtown Sebastopol, which Caltrans will be starting this June.
